2007 Memphis Redbirds - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!!

As I sit here writing this week's post on All Hallow's Eve, I'm contemplating how superstitious I can be when it comes to baseball. It's an unwritten rule that you don't acknowledge a no-hitter as it's happening and I think that factored in me not discussing my desire for the Washington Nationals to win the World Series in last week's post.

I realize that sounds like I sincerely believed some form of Murphy's Law would occur but I think it had more to do with the fact that at that point, the Nationals had won two games against the Astros and I didn't want to pile on too much since they were coasting along. I also didn't want to rub any salt in the wounds of my Yankees Empire friends!

My only horse in the American League was the Yankees so once my current hometown team was eliminated, I simply hitched my wagon to the Nationals. On the topic of wagons, here's an article on John Loughney, who is better known as the "Since Today" Nationals fan. He caught some heat at first but I hope the online jerks let up so he continues to be a fan of the game.

As much as I would have loved to see a series between the Yankees and Nationals, I was relieved when the Astros won the pennant because I secretly wanted to keep rooting for the Nationals as I was already so grateful that the Nationals had defeated the Giants' two biggest foes in the National League: the Los Angeles Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

I realize I went on a pretty big tangent but just know that the reason this 2007 Memphis Redbirds cap is the first Fresh Fitted Friday of the 2019 offseason is because of the National's NLCS victory over the Cardinals, who have been the parent club of this Pacific Coast League franchise since its in 1998.

Memphis is a great city to kick off the PCL series that I'll be featuring over the next few weeks because the team that played there before the Redbirds was a Southern League franchise called the Memphis Chicks. Hopefully you appreciate that smooth segue!

The Redbirds wore this logo for the good part of 2007 through 2014 but you probably wouldn't be surprised to learn that I prefer the blue version of this cap which I have seen more often in photographs from that era.

The sweatband tags here are of the 2005-07 variety but the only year this cap could be from is 2007 because a different cap logo was worn prior to that season.

Another interesting note about this cap is that it features a raised MILB batterman which is something I've seen on a few other caps from 2006 through 2008.

Last week I praised the Southern League for only having ten teams so get ready for some complaining on my end as the PCL has a whopping 16 teams! To be fair, the league is split up into two conferences, each with two divisions of four teams so it's as balanced as can be, I suppose. At any rate, we'll discuss all of that in the coming weeks!

This week's cap is a size 7 3/8 which fits me fine but as I've mentioned before, I'm not a big fan of caps with red crowns so this one will be going on the Trading Block. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you want this or any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.
