2018 Gwinnett Stripers - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!

Many thanks for your understanding of my absence the past few weeks. I've been meaning to do one final Fresh Fitted Friday tribute to the  2021 Atlanta Braves for putting an end to both of baseball's top villains of this season  in the last two rounds of the playoffs but just haven't been able to get to it until now. I suppose the beauty of the offseason is I've got nothing but time on my hands so without further ado, I present to you the 2018-present Gwinnett Stripers on-field alternate cap. This is the Brandiose-designed cap that the Stripers have worn as an alternate since their rebrand in 2018. I personally love the thought of a fish smacking a baseball with its tail rather trying to hold a bat with its tiny fins. I think when you're playing baseball in the water, you should have a special set of rules but maybe that's just me.   This cap is of the Made in Bangladesh variety and to be honest I can't speak to the quality of its construction as I haven&

1997 Richmond Braves - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!!

I was planning on continuing my deep-dive into Eastern League caps however this past week's discussion over Jim Thome's preference that his Hall of Fame plaque not feature the  Chief Wahoo  caricature sparked something that I need to address here. As much as I love baseball's rich history, that appreciation should never cause someone else to suffer. I understand that Chief Wahoo has been a part of the Cleveland Indians' branding since the 1940's but I encourage everyone to please take a moment to think about how different this country was back then. Racial segregation was still in full effect and people of color were constantly subjected to insensitive language and tormented on a daily basis  in general . We've come a long way since then in terms of treating each other with respect and I would be sad to think the end point for that progress is sports fans unwillingness to recognize that a seemingly harmless mascot or logo can in fact be extremely hurtful

Burlington Bees - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!!

You guys, the Houston Astros are in the World Series right now! I'm not going to say I told you so, but I did tell you so  and if you don't feel like reading that entire post where I told you so, I'll give you the quick and dirty: I told you so back in March!  One thing that's more important than being right about telling you so is that I want the Dodgers to lose this series so I'm doing my part to root on the Astros by featuring a hat from a team that plays in a city which once hosted an Astros affiliate: the Burlington Bees. This is a brand new addition to my collection and it is certainly going to be one of my most cherished caps as it was a gift from my wife, whose nickname is Bee! How cute is that, y'all?  This is the Bees' official on-field road cap and I prefer this one more than the home version which has the same purplish blue crown but with a yellow gold bill. The Burlington Bees are currently a Class-A affiliate for the Lo

1999 Greenville Braves

At this point I must admit that last week's call for black magick was useless. Since there's no point in summoning sorcery for this week, I'm just praying the Giants don't get swept by the Padres this weekend and ending the season with 100 losses. Since I'm tuning in to that series while in Atlanta, this week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is a Greenville Braves cap. Bonus points for this week's photos at a Pearle Vision in Roswell, GA. And extra bonus points for the 70's interior.  While the  sweatband tags and  satin taping style are consistent with caps I've featured from the mid 1990's, this cap is most likely not from any time before 1999 which is when the New Era flag began to appear on minor league caps. This Joe Nelson card from 1999 is the oldest Greenville Braves card I could find with a player in a cap sporting the New Era flag.
