1974-78 Wausau Mets Snapback

All-Star week is the most boring time of year for major league sports fans, as it’s the only stretch where there is not at least one game played in MLB, NBA, NHL, or NFL. As addicted as I am to baseball, I actually don’t mind the break much because at this point of the season, I appreciate not having to set fantasy rosters for a few days!

Now that I'm recharged I'm looking forward to my next planned game on Wednesday as the Los Angeles Angels take on the New York Mets for their biennial visit to Queens. The theme for this week’s post is the homestand this upcoming weekend, with Saturday being the number retirement and Mets Hall of Fame induction of former captain David Wright.

Mentioning Wright in last week’s post was a foreshadowing of my plan to wear this vintage Wausau Mets hat in honor of “W” being his last initial but alas ticket prices on the secondary market are sky high for that game so I’ll likely be watching from home!

Now that we're firmly in the fine print zone, I should probably admit I am taking my best guess of this actually being a Wausau Mets hat but the logo almost perfectly matches up with the least grainy photos I've seen of the former Mets affiliate in the Midwest League.

The grey undervisor and sweatband tag definitely resemble what I've seen on MILB caps from the mid-1990s however there's no other indicators that prove those years are when this cap was made and worn.

Even after all these years writing this blog about fitted hats, I do feel some shame in featuring snapbacks but I always must remind myself not every team could afford fitteds, especially Single-A teams like Wausau, regardless if that's even what team wore this cap!

If I end up making it to CitiField this Saturday, I'll definitely wear this cap although I am concerned about adding sweat stains to it if the temperatures stay as high as they've been here in New York. And if my next game happens to be next week I'll just have to wear it then!

I'm also planning a trip home to Virginia the following week and I'm looking forward to attending a Norfolk Tides game for a "turn back the clock" game where the players will wear uniforms worn by the Tidewater Tides in the early 1990s. I'll either wear this week's cap or the 1989-92 Tidewater Tides (New Era Buffalo Exclusive Retro) that I featured here almost a year ago.

This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is not going on the Trading Block however please don't hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.

As always, thanks for coming back to read about baseball hat geekery. If you'd like to discuss a trade or simply just chat about hats, please feel free to connect via the following social sites:
