1992 Everett Giants - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!!

As I'm sure anyone reading this is already aware, Monday, April 3, 2016 was Opening Day however I have a question for the baseball purists out there: did it feel less special because there were three televised games on Sunday, April 3, which was the day before Opening Day?

This question is tricky because some might say having Opening Day on a Monday is a tradition that must be observed but then there are also those that wonder who in their right mind would be upset that the baseball season began early? I love the traditional aspect of the game but I admit that I fall into the latter camp simply because my motto is "more baseball, more better".

Well that's not really my motto but one of my dreams is for Major League Baseball to expand and have a short-season league in the Southern Hemisphere (or make the Australian Baseball League a thing) so that MLB could have games year-round, meaning there would be two Opening Days!

In that case, let's talk logistics: I'd be fine if they bumped the Northern Hemisphere's Opening Day up to the last Monday in March so that the World Series could end by Halloween. Then the Southern Hemisphere's Opening Day could be on the last Monday of November so that for once we could all watch a baseball game on Thanksgiving rather than having football as our only option. Freedom of choice, yes!

My vision might not ever come to fruition, at least not in my lifetime but there are still short season leagues out there and I've written about a few teams here such as the Hillsboro Hops (Northwest League), Vermont Lake Monsters (New York-Penn League) and Great Falls Voyagers (Pioneer League).  Someday I'd like to talk about a hat from team from the Appalachian League but I just haven't found the right one yet.

In the meantime, I'd like to gush over a former short season Class-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants from the Northwest League: the Everett Giants.

I do enjoy looking at that baseball soaring over the Giants logo.

Very few former Everett batters probably ever hit a ball that flew so majestically but I suspect most of their pitchers might have lobbed a pitch over the catcher and umpire's head about once per inning.

The Everett Giants sported this cap logo from 1992-1994 but I'd say this one is most likely from the earlier end of that range judging by the tags which look almost identical to this Yomiuri Giants cap aside from the MILB tag.

Even if the sweatband is not pearly white, I'd say this cap is in great shape considering it is about 25 years old. Also, check out that squarish brim
I can never have too many vintage caps from defunct SF Giants teams so this week's hat isn't going on the Trading Block however please don't hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from there and you are willing to part with any of the following hats on my Wish List.

As always, thanks for coming back to read about baseball hat geekery and please feel free to reach out via any of the following social sites:
