Jacksonville Expos - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!!

Despite my moral and ethical obligations, I must congratulate the Los Angeles Dodgers for their NLCS win and upcoming return to the World Series. My heart is cold and black so any joy a Dodgers fan feels makes me miserable however I did get some good news this week: there is talk of MLB returning to the great city of Montreal and maybe Portland, Oregon too!

My main issue with Portland getting a team is that while it has a long history of being one of the great Triple-A cities, it hasn't had a team at that level since 2010. I do believe that Portland has the population and the income to support an MLB franchise so I wish them luck. After all, I like the natural rivalry between Seattle and Portland so this could be good.

Although I have concerns about Portland's chances, I feel there isn't a city more deserving of a team right now than Montreal. I've spilled much ink lamenting the demise of the Expos so I'd love for Montreal to get another shot. This rumor has got me giddy enough to finally push me to write about my dynamic duo of Jacksonville Expos hats for this week's blog.

While Montreal features an uppercase M flanked by a lowercase E and B for their cap logo, Jacksonville borrows its parent team's iconography to meld a lowercase E and uppercase J for their variation on that theme.

I've been chasing this vintage relic from the 1980's for many years and I finally found someone willing to part with it who is a fellow hat enthusiast (and blogger) in desperate search of a vintage Riverside Pilots fitted cap like the one featured here in December 2016.

This Fresh Mesh here is pristine as this cap does not appear to have been worn at all. I'm amazed it is in such great condition considering it's older than virtually every 20-something Dodgers fan out there who has never seen their team in the World Series. (Sick burn, right?)

As it turns out, my good fortune in finding a trade partner was only compounded by Hat Club's recently retro Jacksonville Expos cap release. They've done a great job lately with their retro runs and I hope they eventually get to some of the other caps on my hunt list.

I believe as a general rule these retro caps have to have the New Era flag embroidered on the wearer's left side. While I'm glad it's featured in red here and blends in with that particular panel, I'm not into how the red stitching sticks out on the white and blue panels.

If Hat Club re-released this cap, I know that using mesh would be a hard ask but I do hope they would at least give it a grey underbrim to keep consistency with the original article from the 1980's. Still, even if they changed nothing I'd definitely buy this cap again!

As an aside, another reason I chose to write about these caps is because they tie in nicely with last week's post as Jacksonville was Montreal's Double-A affiliate from 1984 until 1990 which was the year before the team moved to Harrisburg, PA and became the Senators.

Anyway, here are some photos of Jacksonville Expos cards that I find entertaining!

I wonder how many times Orsino Hill got the VIP upgrade at restaurants because someone thought the reservation was really for Arsenio Hall.

Whoever approved this reversed image of Mike Dull is my hero because now the world can see how cool the cap would have looked if the Expos had a minor league club in a town who's name started with a B.

Here's another reversed image from this set which I decided to share simply because this image of a seemingly left-handed catcher is mind-boggling.
I searched long and hard for the snapback cap so I'm definitely not putting that one on the Trading Block however I am tempted to let go of the Hat Club retro so you should definitely reach out if you want that cap (or anything else from the Trading Block) and are willing to part with one of the hats on my Wish List.

I hope you enjoyed these photos of my Jacksonville Expos caps! As always, thanks for coming back to read about baseball hat geekery. I've got comments disabled here so if you'd like to discuss a trade or simply just chat about hats, please feel free to connect via the following social sites:
