Bad News Bees (The Clink Room)

Welcome back, folks! My unplanned sabbatical lasted a month but I'm glad to be posting again although I I envision this week's entry will be rather brief. Things are still busy for me at the moment but I could not resist sharing this Bad News Bees cap that I picked up via The Clink Room with you fine people today in celebration of World Bee Day!

The inspiration behind this design is rooted in the infamous 1986 San Jose Bees of the California League who were not affiliated with a big league team, which was very uncommon at the time. Their roster was mostly comprised of MLB castoffs and the team was widely known as the "Bad News Bees" due to the general quirkiness of its players.

The only improvement to the sweatband that I can think of would be to add a tag with The Clink Room's branding to make the layout symmetrical.

The visor and undervisor being the same color isn't my favorite aspect of this cap but that's all forgiven because instead of having a plain back, each hat from The Clink Room comes with an embroidery featuring its official mascot named Clink Kong.

I looked back in this blog's archive to see if I've ever shared a design from The Clink Room and the closest I got was in an Asheville Tourists alternate post back around this time in 2019 which was just about a year before the site was re-launched. Since then, I've ordered about a dozen hats with logos designed by the Clinker community.

The alternate Tourists hat is fantastic but there's something even more special connecting a collective of creators with people who will appreciate their art. I've also enjoyed following some of my favorite Clinkers on Instagram and I recommend you do the same, starting with Bay Area artist LeRoid David, who is the driving force behind this week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection.

I'm very glad to have been able to share this fantastic cap this week because are my favorite winged insects. The same is true for my wife so it's quite handy that this holiday dovetails nicely with her birthday which is happening someday soon, which reminds me that I need to find out exactly what the date is on that…I kid, I kid!

This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is not going on the Trading Block however please don't hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.

As always, thanks for coming back to read about baseball hat geekery. I've got comments disabled here so if you'd like to discuss a trade or simply just chat about hats, please feel free to connect via the following social sites:
