Unless your favorite team is in the mix for a postseason run, the last week of baseball's regular season is an objectively boring time. Sadly, the San Francisco Giants were eliminated from the Wild Card race Tuesday night, so without that pressure, I'll try to simply be happy for the winning teams, especially if their success comes at the expense of the Los Angeles Dodgers!
My pettiness will only subside once the Dodgers are knocked out of contention; however, their odds to repeat as World Series champions are incredibly favorable, with only the Philadelphia Phillies having a slight advantage over them at this point in time. Thus, to subside my feelings of hopelessness, I have shifted my focus to the minor league baseball playoff landscape!
In fact, as I sat down to write this post, I streamed the deciding game of the 2025 International League Championship Series between the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Marlins) and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Yankees), in which Jacksonville emerged victorious.
As it happens, I was visiting my family in Virginia this past weekend and attended the final game of the Norfolk Tides season, in which they beat Jacksonville, so the Jumbo Shrimp are still fresh in my mind! Unfortunately, I don't have one of the team's current caps, so this week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection highlights the logo the Jacksonville Suns wore from 1991-93.
This is the seventh Jacksonville cap that I've featured on the blog and while my undisputed favorite is the 1980s Jacksonville Expos logo, I love that this J's curl resembles the "e" in the the old Expos design.
Getting a fitted version of this cap is certainly on my list of to-dos, but I'm fine with the snapback variant for the moment.
Rest assured I will be celebrating Jacksonville's victory by popping the tag on this relic that is now over 30 years old.
In my post featuring my 1968 Jacksonville Suns retro cap, I mentioned the team moved to Norfolk the following year to become the Tidewater Tides team that I knew and loved growing up, but forgot to state they were International League champs in their final season in Jacksonville. This is important as the Jumbo Shrimp victory tonight was their first time clinching a Triple-A title since their return to the league in 2021.
This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is not going on the Trading Block however please don't hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.
