2001 Columbus Clippers (25th Anniversary)

Just a week ago, I wouldn't consider walking out the door without a hoodie to keep me warm, but then the following Sunday, temperatures reached the mid-80s and rose up to the low 90s, which stayed steady through this past Wednesday. I should mention, the purpose of this weather recap is really only to provide an excuse as to why I haven't been to a Yankees game yet this season!

Considering the past few posts went from Yankees to Mets, you would think the Subway Series theme would be wrapped up, but today is National Maritime Day, and the most nautical cap I own just happens to be one worn by the Columbus Clippers, who were the Triple-A affiliates for the Yankees from 1979 through 2006.

The last time I wrote about this cap logo was almost exactly 11 years ago although this week's hat is the one the Clippers wore in 2001 to commemorate their 25th season in Columbus.

If the Clippers celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2001, this year would be their 50th season; however, as yet, there has not been any news of the team honoring the occasion with a special patch for this season.

The "messy" taping that I've seen on lots of caps from 2001-03 that I'm not a huge fan of but just have to accept if it's on a vintage wool beauty like this week's hat.

The 25th Anniversary patch on this week's cap is also an interesting tie-in to last week's Mets cap, which also featured a 25th anniversary patch. The two years bookending it were important years in Mets history, as 1962 was their inaugural season and 1986 was the year they won their most recent World Series.

While the Clippers are not making a big deal about their 50 years in Columbus, the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays are paying tribute to their beginnings in 1977 with some sweet side patches on their on-field caps. Picking up a cap from either of those teams is not a priority, but if I end up visiting one of those teams’ ballparks this season, I might just have to grab one!

This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is not going on the Trading Block however please don't hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.

As always, thanks for coming back to read about baseball hat geekery. If you'd like to discuss a trade or simply just chat about hats, please feel free to connect via the following social sites:
