Missives of a Baseball Milquetoast

I think this is a sweet World Series side patch, but I like the ones from 2012 and 2013 that have the trophy on them even more.   I go to lots of Yankees games and I love it when I see the veteran fans wearing this cap! Get a good look at those sweatband tags from 1998!  It's not common to find this cap in unused condition. I guess some fan was still rocking his 1996 World Series cap when this one surfaced. By the time he was ready for it, the Yankees were selling caps for the 1999, 2000 and 2001 World Series, though the 2001 cap is not one that you'll see fans wearing for obvious reasons. You all know what the Yankees logo looks like and represents: pure Death Star status right there! The 2015 baseball season is officially underway and if your favorite team is 0-4, I offer my condolences and I wish you the best of luck for next season. This Tucson Toros cap logo is not the most iconic, but it's not without symbolistic importance. You might be asking yourself, "how is ripping off the Chicago Bulls logo symbolic?"and to that I can only reply with, can you not tell that there are no red tips on this Bull's  (oops!) Toro's horns? It seems like Pro-line went with the extra-round varietal of brims this particular season. Good ol' sweatband tags doing their jobs! I'm writing about about one final cap from a team based in a Spring Training state to close out the theme of the past few weeks. I chose to focus on this Tucson Toros cap in light of the Arizona Wildcats' elimination from the NCAA Championship. This cap features a fun logo from the guys at Brandiose. I always dig their work. This scombrid is a mighty surly one indeed. Notice how the Wahoo is gripping a bat with some mysterious phantom phalanges. I just trademarked "Phantom Phalanges" as a band name, btw. Nothing crazy about these sweatband tags but maybe one day they will seem crazy! That is an MILB batterman logo in Pink, White and Blue. I love it. When the New York (baseball) Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958, their fans in New York weren't the only ones feeling the heartache of losing their team.  For decades, the San Francisco Seals were a major force in the City by the Bay.  They marked their last season there by winning the Pacific Coast League's pennant in 1957 when they were an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.  The following year, they moved to Phoenix and became the top farm team of the newly arrived Giants who displaced them and this week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is the cap they wore: I love this cap but it gets tiresome when people constantly confuse it for a Pittsburgh Pirates cap. This cap logo has been around for a loooooong time, and I hope it doesn't change a bit! Look at what's happening there and tell me  you don't envision yourself at a beachside ballpark enjoying a Cuban sandwich! Usual suspects of sweatband tags on current MILB caps in 2014 Standard MILB logo, but ain't nothing standard about Red, White and Blue! After last week's "palm tree on a baseball cap" theme, I'm actually surprised that a logo design segue could possibly exist between that one and this Fort Myers Miracle on-field fitted. I suppose the big difference is that this cap features a baseball growing from the palm tree which is a supernatural element that could certainly be deemed a “miracle” of sorts. What I find to be a real miracle is that the state of Florida is currently represented by not one, but two MLB teams. I know it looks like a hat worn by the filming crew from a  Golden Girls Christmas Special , but this cap is actually orange and green, not red and green! While I'm not a big fan of the Miami Dolphins (nor do I care for dolphins in real life which is a story for another time) but I really do like the orange and green colorway. It exudes leisure! I know this blog is supposed to be about celebrating my fresh fitteds , but these caps are hard to come by. The cheapest fitted version that I could find was $50 on eBay but I resisted and spent less on a snapback.  Keeping things simple with that single New Era tag; sadly, the MLB and MILB logos need not apply here. Seeing as how so many farm teams piggyback on their parent club's moniker and come up short in the originality department, I'm glad I picked up this cap because this logo truly embodies the independent spirit that I appreciate so much in minor league baseball. It's always appreciated when the team logos can let go of the stuffiness and this Hillsboro Hops cap knows how to have "fun" while maintaining an air serious enough to let you know that they are gonna whup you on the baseball diamond. The main thing that I love about this logo is that it celebrates the Pacific Northwest's greatest export (craft beer) by featuring a smirking hop cone -who is also wearing the team's away cap, which is totally meta- against a backdrop of the mountains and trees thus honoring the region's natural beauty.
