Acapulco Gold "ILL" - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!!

In addition to being my favorite band as a kid, Beastie Boys are the biggest inspiration for me moving to New York as an adult. As a Beastie Boys fan growing up in the 1980s, I used words like "def" and "ill" without understanding the context behind these slang words so when I saw the embroidered on the crown of this Acapulco Gold hat, I knew I had to have it. Any Beastie Boys fan worth their weight in salt owns a copy of the band's 1989 record Paul's Boutique and associates the southwest corner of Ludlow and Rivington with being the location photographed for the album's cover. This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is a tribute to the historical event of that corner being officially dubbed “Beastie Boys Square” tomorrow, Sept 9. I love how the serifs resemble those on the current "SF" logo and I'm already trying to think of names for a fake club I can use as a response to questions such as "what team is that?" which I am...

Acapulco Gold "Ghost Army" (Gold Lightning)

Just as I anticipated, I'm back within a month of my last post and just the thought of regularly writing again is very comforting as this summer has been busier than usual for me. I'm now mentally preparing myself for autumn and all the fun activities that I associate with the season with the top item of that list being Halloween! The tradition of remembering the departed is celebrated around the world throughout different times of the year and can known by a variety of names. For  example, in China and many parts of Southeast Asia, the Ghost Festival, also known as the Zhongyuan Festival, takes place on the 15th day of the 7th month of the lunar calendar, which is today on the western calendar. One aspect of Ghost Festival is that spirits that are ignored are thought to create mischief and those wily activities are the inspiration for this week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection whose gold lightning bolts on are designed to pay tribute to the “Ghost Army” which was a tactica...

Acapulco Gold "Red G" - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!!

I mentioned in the previous  Fresh Fitted Friday post that I'd be taking a little break from the blog and while my intent was to take a longer respite for most of the summer, I had to make a quick return for a special post as a shout out to my sister who is celebrating a birthday today. Ask anyone who has had a sibling in their life about the bond they share with that person and they will tell you that their relationship is unlike any other one that they have ever known. As we grow older our recollections become fuzzier but no matter how much time passes, each of us has touchstone memories that define our childhood. One of the most lasting experiences like that for me was when I was just over four years old and my parents showed me a gold necklace with a letter "G" pendant for my sister Gabrielle who had just been born. From that point on, whenever I look upon any design featuring that initial, my heart is instantly warmed as I think of my sister. I was visiting Boston f...

Acapulco Gold "Ghost Army" (Red)

As the first half of 2021 draws to a close, I have been reflecting on this blog's growth since it began ten years ago. And what I mean by growth is the sheer amount of "firsts" I'm able to recognize in posts over the past few months. I had never written about an NBA team before last week and the two Buffalo Bills caps from the beginning of the year were the first NFL hats that I've featured on the blog but I think the "branching out" trend began in earnest with the Slide Sox hat from Christmas Day. I didn't mention it at the time but I believe that Slide Sox hat was my first ever "non-sports related" cap to get the Fresh Fitted Friday honors and this week's Acapulco Gold "Ghost Army" hat marks the second time in the blog's history that this has happened.  I admit that I bought this cap years ago because I thought the logo was cool but not too long after that I learned that the design originated from the Ghost Army, which...
