2008-12 St. Lucie Mets Cap - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!!

Even though my stock of caps from the Sunshine State isn't quite depleted, I've few other themes in mind for the coming weeks so this one is now winding down. In the meantime, I hope you dig this week's cap: a St. Lucie Mets cap featuring the "Big Fly" logo!

I've seen this version of the cap logo on caps as far back as 2001 although it was usually on ones with black crowns until about 2008
MILB switched over to polyester caps with black underbrims in 2008 so that's the earliest this cap could be from which makes sense considering the writing on the satin taping.

I like the amount of orange on the MILB batterman here. I'm definitely not a New York Mets fan but you better believe I'll wear this hat to a game at CitiField at least once this season!
I'm really digging the 30th Anniversary cap that Justin Dunn is wearing here and that the St. Lucie Mets will be wearing throughout this season.
Speaking of anniversary caps, I recently had some spirited social media discussions regarding whether a team should celebrate it's "20th anniversary" during its 20th season or after the completion of that season. A fellow hat nerd shared this article from Uniwatch that in short, states you don't celebrate a 20th anniversary until the completion of the 20th year.

The article argues that if you celebrate during the 20th season, you are commemorating the ordinal rather than the anniversary. I suppose my issue is I always thought of the ordinal number as simply the position something holds in a list (eg. first place, 99th problem, etc.).

Either way, I appreciate that 1988 and 2018 share the same number on the patch so as long as it reads "30th anniversary" and not "30th season", I'm going to want this cap!

Clint Hurdle is seen here in a card from St. Lucie's inaugural season in 1988. Hurdle was the manager for the Tidewater Tides when I was getting into Minor League baseball as a youngling.

This cap isn't for sale or trade however don't hesitate to reach out if there's something you like on the Trading Block
and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.

As always, thanks for coming back to read about baseball hat geekery. I've got comments disabled here so if you'd like to discuss a trade or simply just chat about hats, please feel free to connect via the following social sites:
