Welcome back to the post-Thanksgiving/pre-Christmas edition of Fresh Fitted Friday y'all.
You might (or might not!) be wondering where I have been the past few weeks and the answer to that is that I've been traveling to some pretty cool spots. I'd never been to Charleston, SC before this past weekend and the one before that I visited Providence, RI for the first time in over twenty years so in honor of that triumphant return, this week's Portland Beavers retro is one whose logo could easily be taken for a Providence cap.
I've stated before how the early and mid-1990's were a hectic time in terms of my obsession with minor league baseball so it shouldn't come as any surprise when a hat that was only around from 1991 through 1992 holds a special place in my heart.
Another reason this cap is great is because Pat Mahomes and Willie Banks played for the Beavers both seasons in which the team wore this cap. As you might recall, I had a run-in with those guys when I was twelve so I definitely think about them when I see this logo.
I initially had reservations about featuring a retro cap this week as I tend to prefer showcasing vintage caps instead but the more I thought about it, I realized how grateful I am that HatClub has been hitting it out of the park with these releases over the years.
Of course the vintage caps have so much character but older caps that certain teams only used for one or two seasons—like this one—are outrageously priced on the resale market so I have absolutely no problem with going retro in this case.
This cap is not going on the Trading Block however please do not hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.
As always, thanks for coming back to read about baseball hat geekery. I've got commentsdisabled enabled (made an exception for this post because I felt the comment needed to be seen) here so if you'd like to discuss a trade or simply just chat about hats, please feel free to connect via the following social sites:

HatClub did a more than decent job with this retro but my only complaint would be that the little swoosh under the P should have been less tapered on the right side. |

A benefit of the retro caps is that the black sweatband is better for longevity. Also, you can't see underneath the New Era tag but rest assured that it reads "Made in U.S.A." under there. |

No batterman here which is historically accurate but I'm still unsure if the original cap had a grey underbrim or a green. |
