This week's National Day theme is of the three-day variety as we are about to embark upon Presidents' Day Weekend! To celebrate this much appreciated respite from the routine grind, I cherry-picked a Fredericksburg Nationals "George" alternate cap to celebrate the first President of the United States.

One of the first things schoolchildren in the US are taught about George Washington is the Cherry Tree Myth and I only now just learned from this article that the whole story was fabricated so they could sell more books about the President. When students are learning about irony in later grades, this exact scenario should be highlighted as a key example.
Well, back to hats…I wasn't sure if I'd ever written about any Washington Nationals hats and the closest I could find were early 2000s Hagerstown Suns and Harrisburg Senators caps. While those might not technically count as Nationals hats because of their age, the geographical and historical significance of those two cities make a strong case to count them.
Both of these affiliates that were inherited from the Expos still serve as Nationals farm clubs to this day. I'm a huge fan of Expos minor league hats and can see myself eventually warming up to the Nationals affiliates, especially if the Rochester Red Wings and Wilmington Blue Rocks have some interesting, and potentially US history themed alternate logos lined up in the near future.
