1978 Tacoma Yankees Retro - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!

This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is a 1978 Tacoma Yankees retro that continues the "Washington" theme of last week's Presidents Day post because, well Tacoma is in State of Washington state.

I picked this hat because today is February 24 and fans of the show Twin Peaks widely recognize this date to be the one where Agent Cooper came to the fictional town in Washington to investigate the death of Laura Palmer.

The lettering here is a little more rigid than I would expect to see on a Yankees-affiliated hat but I still prefer the resemblance of Kanji characters on this hat over the disjointed look of the old Tampa Yankees cap logo.

I love that there was no requirement for this cap to feature a batterman or New Era flag but most of all I'm glad to have purchased from Hat Club in June 2018, well before New Era closed its last US-based factory in Derby, NY.

I also like how extra on the Kelly this cap goes. It's perfect for St. Patrick's Day which I just realized is coming up soon. What I don't love is the stray fibers in the stitching that I had to trim up with a box cutter and a seam ripper but that adds to the uniqueness of the cap I guess!

Tacoma was only affiliated with the Yankees for the 1978 season and if you're fan of the organization that year should stick out as being the last one in which the team won a World Series until their next dynasty began in 1996. By the way, there has been a World Series drought for all of the 13 years that I've lived in New York so let's see what this year brings.

Of course, my main focus is still on the San Francisco Giants and while they didn't make any huge splashes as far as acquisitions this off-season, I'm hoping that the moves they did make pay off nicely throughout the year. Staying up late to catch the evening games on the west coast is tough but I'm willing to make that sacrifice for my team!

I suppose MLB's draconian blackout policy makes it especially easy to stay loyal to my "out of market" team because all MLB.TV subscribers located in the New York area are restricted from viewing Mets or Yankees games while they are being broadcast live in the region.

In addition to today being Twin Peaks Day, it also happens to be the first Spring Training games of the year and as luck would have it the only one that I know is being televised is between the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres. I don't think that I could have found yet another way to link last week's post with this week's but here we are!

This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is not going on the Trading Block however please don't hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.

As always, thanks for coming back to read about baseball hat geekery. I've got comments disabled here so if you'd like to discuss a trade or simply just chat about hats, please feel free to connect via the following social sites:
