This week's post is another light-hearted one as chicken tender enthusiasts collectively celebrate Chicken Finger Day which happens to fall tomorrow July 27.
The holiday itself was coined by Raising Canes which is a fast food restaurant that works painstakingly hard to reach their goal of creating the perfect chicken finger, otherwise known as chicken goujons, chicken strips, chicken fillets as well chicken tenders which is what they were first called upon being invented at Manchester’s Puritan Backroom Restaurant in 1974.
To honor the iconic regional delicacy that was created in their city, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats hosted their theme night where they played as the Manchester Chicken Tenders on June 4, 2022. Because they know palate preference for tenders, or tendies as they are also affectionally known as, they created three different flavors for fans to chose their preference: Classic, Buffalo and Coconut.
I have a tendency (or tendiecy) to gravitate toward spicy food so I purchased the Buffalo varietal which also tracks because my wife's family is from Buffalo, NY. Ultimately the fans flocked (get it?) to the Classic flavor which is fine because I respect the OG entities (entendies?…ok I'll stop) as well as the fact that I have an aversion to anything coconut-flavored so I definitely didn't want that one to win!
The 2023 Tenders game happened on July 27 which lines up with Chicken Finger Day as does this year's theme night which will be happening on the day of the holiday itself once again. This time though, the spice levels have been brought up a notch as the on-field flavor will be Buffalo!
