San Francisco Giants (1983 Wordmark)

The long wait for baseball's return is over! The 2025 MLB regular season has begun for every team except for the Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Rays, who face off today at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. I have written enough about the Rays lately, so I'd like to focus on my favorite team, the San Francisco Giants, who won their first game of the season today!

Celebrating my team on the first post of each season should be a tradition I follow going forward because it sets the tone for things to come. Thankfully, I have no shortage of Giants hats to write about! And instead of flaunting one of their recent World Series on-field caps, I selected one with the iconic wordmark that debuted in 1983 which was actually a bleak point in Giants history.

When I see this logo I envision it as a chest back or large patch on a very specific satin Starter jacket which I think a kid on my school bus had in 1987. Thinking back on it, he might have been the first Giants fan I ever met and is possibly the reason I started thinking they were cool in the first place. Shout out Eric (I forgot your last name) from the bus!

This is one is a China-made cap but I haven't come across any noticeable flaws on it yet so I'm glad to have picked up this exclusive release from Hat Club, to whom I must give credit for championing the Made in U.S.A. hats as long as they could. Hopefully we can get back to those days because $50+ for one made in Bangladesh or China seems wrong to me.

And now for the "looking back" vantage point, we see no batterman here just like things used to be back in the early 1980s. Sadly, the Giants were terrible then but those times didn't last long as the days of Will Clark, Matt Williams and Kevin Mitchell were just around the corner!

I am so thankful Hat Club released this cap, and I hope this post brings good luck to my Giants in 2025. I am also thankful that my team has the best broadcasting duo in MLB in Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow, whose first year as teammates was in 1983, when this logo first appeared. I am sure they would give a nod of approval if I ever ran into them while wearing it. Go Giants!

This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is not going on the Trading Block however please don't hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.
