1990-91 Orlando SunRays hat - Fresh Fitted Friday!!!!

Now that MLB's 2018 regular season is underway, I'm back to dedicating a full seven days a week thinking about baseball as opposed to the one day a week when I posted to this blog. My appreciation for Florida minor league baseball continues this week with a hat I've been seeking out for quite a while: a 1990-91 Orlando Sun Rays hat.

The wordmark logo reads "Orlando Rays" however the team's official moniker was "Sun Rays" or "SunRays" depending on whom you ask. They wore this logo the first two years of their existence and switched to this cap logo for their final two seasons.

Featuring an AJD cap two weeks in a row is definitely a record for this blog as I'm typically an unabashed New Era purist.

Last week's 1992 AJD Fort Myers Miracle hat didn't have an MILB batterman so there's no way this one would but here's a photo just to be sure

Their name changed to the Orlando Cubs upon their affiliation with the Chicago Cubs in 1993 but became the Orlando Rays for their last year with the Cubs in 1997. They kept this name when they became affiliated with the Seattle Mariners the next year and throughout their current affiliation with the Tampa Bay (then-Devil) Rays which began in 1999.

If you didn't get enough love and light from this Sun Rays cap then you need to check out this this article I found a while ago called The “Real” First Rays: 1990 Orlando Sun Rays where you'll learn that Ron Gardenhire managed a Double-A team stacked with  Chuck Knoblauch and Scott Erickson who would be World Series champions a year later.

In case anyone out there wants to retro this cap, the dimensions of this logo are 9cm x 5.5cm (W x H). I'm not sure if you can tell by the photos but the brim and the button on this hat are definitely pink!

This cap isn't for sale or trade however don't hesitate to reach out if there's something you like on the Trading Block and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.

As always, thanks for coming back to read about baseball hat geekery. I've got comments disabled here so if you'd like to discuss a trade or simply just chat about hats, please feel free to connect via the following social sites:
