My posts ahead of Labor Day Weekend from the past two years have both been Ebbets Field Flannels retros of caps worn by the Denver Bears during different eras of their existence. My reason for highlighting Denver is as a tribute to Phish's annual run of shows which have taken place there over the holiday weekend yearly since 2011, with the exception of 2020 as their entire summer tour had to be canceled due to the pandemic.
Onto happier times now and even though I am not there to witness it, I can thankfully follow along from home via webcast and can confirm that Phish is poised to bring the goods over this four-night run. Because I have now written about all my Denver Bears caps, I need to pivot to Denver-adjacent caps with an Albuquerque Isotopes in a Colorado Rockies colorway.
The tonal visor and undervisor combo isn't usually my favorite but purple is a color that is near and dear to me so I'll allow it! |
Bringing all the possible feels with this hauntingly beautiful video of Phish covering Neil Young's "Albuquerque" on October 20, 1998 from Sessions at West 54th, New York, NY
The convergence of the two cities in this post actually has some historical significance as both cities were featured together in my 1980s Albuquerque Dukes and Denver Zephyrs write-up from 2011. Looking back on that post all these years later, I find it amusing that I combined both hats into one post considering my collection was nowhere near as sprawling as it is today!
As a huge fan of The Simpsons, it is surprising that I only have two caps from a team whose name is a reference to the show however this colorway is the only one I have considered to be a must-own since my 2014 Albuquerque Isotopes post in 2015. In fairness, the only "Theme Night" cap I can think of is this green chile cheeseburger and their Defenders of the Diamond and Copa de la Diversion logos are not quite "baseball-y" enough for my taste!
I must admit that I really dig the merch centered around Breaking Bad and The Simpsons and could probably pick-up the road hat which swaps in a red visor whereas the one on the home cap is black to match the crown.
This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is not going on the Trading Block however please don't hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.
As always, thanks for coming back to read about baseball hat geekery. If you'd like to discuss a trade or simply just chat about hats, please feel free to connect via the following social sites:
