San Francisco Giants (2017 All-Star Game - Workout Day and Home Run Derby hat)

As I mentioned in last week's 1957 Miami Marlins post, I will be making my first-ever trip this weekend to the ballpark where the current iteration of the Miami Marlins plays. To celebrate the occasion, the theme for this week's post will fast-forward us 60 years from 1957 to the 2017 All-Star Game, which was thus far the only time it was put on in Miami.

Looking back in the blog's archive will show that I commemorated that 2017 All-Star Game by showcasing the hat worn by the San Francisco Giants ten years prior when it was held in their ballpark, which objectively speaking has had too many embarrassing corporate names to even recount a single one here now.

This week's post closes that loop as I feature an on-field Giants cap from when the event was held at Miami's park, which at the time was innocuously called Marlins Park but unfortunately now itself has an awful name as it is currently known as LoanDepot Park. Sadly, gone are the days where you simply call out a surname like Fenway or Wrigley when referring to a stadium.

Today’s Fresh Fitted Friday selection is the cap design worn by players during the Workout Day and Home Run Derby, which occurred a day prior to the All-Star Game itself.

There is a blue variant of this cap, but I have only seen players wearing the black one I am featuring today. As an obsessive completist and planner, I feel it should be my goal to obtain the blue one and feature it during the 2027 All-Star break!

While the side patch on the 2007 All-Star Game cap will forever be my favorite, design elements on these workout caps, such as the floral pattern on the undervisor and breathable mesh crown resembling fish scales, capture the host city's spirit far better than most that come to mind.

I I don’t have any "looking back" thoughts as we glance upon the rear of this cap other than to say I hope going forward, teams hosting All-Star Games in the future lean into visual aesthetics that are representative of their cities and regions as Miami did with this 2017 design.

I don't recall much about the 2017 All-Star Game itself, but the Home Run Derby was quite the event. The world got to see a full-on power display from Aaron Judge, who was halfway through his historic rookie season with the New York Yankees. If you're in the mood for a trip down memory lane, this video of highlights from the 2017 derby should do the trick.

This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is not going on the Trading Block however please don't hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.
