I started writing about my baseball caps on this site in August 2011. Initially, my first few posts focused on the minutiae of some vintage San Francisco Giants caps all featuring the logo used from 1983 to 1992. However, my focus gradually shifted to minor league caps and eventually, some of the first New York Yankees hats I acquired during my early years living here.
All these years later, I have more Giants and Yankees hats than I need, but can never seem to get enough minor league caps. Like many collectors in the community, I sometimes experience fatigue with designs that feel formulaic. However, the levels of creativity flowing into minor league logos are only matched by the work of designers creating through The Clink Room.
Despite my relentless pursuit of novel and captivating designs, the enduring appeal of logos that initially captivated me prompted me to honor these iconic logos by applying the Favorites tag to caps that align with their description. While I endeavor to maintain a manageable size for the “Favorites” collection, I remain open to welcoming newcomers to my collection.
Grammar enthusiasts might be curious about the italicization of “catch” in the last sentence. However, those familiar with the blog might recall me discussing the “Oyster-in-Glove” or “Mitt” design in this Chesapeake Oyster Catchers post back in November 2025. Well, I recently applied my own mitts on this cap and eagerly anticipate sharing photos of it at a later date.
Coming back to the "original favorites" topic, if you dig far enough back in the archives to August 2011, you will see the first two posts that I retroactively tagged are for the Hickory Crawdads and the Augusta GreenJackets. I have a fondness for both logos but I somehow wrote a decent amount about the Crawdads but almost nothing for the GreenJackets.
I eventually course corrected that gaffe in my 1999-2001 Augusta GreenJackets post from March 2019, and now just over seven years later, I am honoring the commencement of the 2026 Masters at Augusta National with a GreenJackets cap from that very same era. This time however, the cap is a 7 3/8, which is the size I actually wear!
| This cute little guy has had a stranglehold on me as long as I've been collecting ballcaps. Green is my favorite color and any variant of a non-threatening bee is one I will welcome anytime! |
| I am thrilledto now have a New Era-issued cap featuring this logo in my size which reminds me to mention the Augusta GreenJackets cap in 7 1/4 I wrote about in March 2019 is still out there on the Trading Block. |
This week's Fresh Fitted Friday selection is not going on the Trading Block however please don't hesitate to reach out if you want any other cap from that list and you are willing to part with any of the hats on my Wish List.
