The 2026 World Series has now concluded, and just as I had hoped (and predicted) in last week's post, the Milwaukee Brewers have emerged as champions. And as it happens, their first-ever championship parade and rally are scheduled to begin in downtown Milwaukee this morning at 10 am CT.
I hope the team and staff relish every moment of today's celebrations up through the 146 days between now and Thursday, March 25, 2027 which is Opening Day of the 2027 Major League Baseball season. As a self-described purist, I am only begrudgingly giving the slightest credence to the ridiculous "Opening Night" happening the night before the traditional Opening Day!
The Brewers will no doubt have a target on their backs next season, but I prefer to look at it as a spotlight because for too long they have not been shown the respect deserved by a team that has won its division five times in the last six years. Righting wrongs aside, people are paying attention to the Brew Crew now, and I do not anticipate that changing any time soon.
I am thinking back on the previous Opening Day and how my first post of the 2026 season viewed the lackluster performances of Aaron Judge and Paul Skenes out of the gate through rose-colored glasses. Despite Skenes not living up to the otherworldly hype assigned to him and Judge's injury, I expect them both to bounce back next year.
Why though? I am still talking about Judge and Skenes when the focus should be on the champs? Perhaps that is because one of the Brewers’ strengths is to pretend to be unassuming so their adversaries leave their guard down. On the topic of opposing forces, is there a more fascinating catalyst who sparked war than Helen of Troy?
That is for you good folks to debate, as well as whether or not the Brewers have the most iconic and clever primary logo in MLB throughout the 1980s through the late 1990s as did their minor league affiliates, with the exception of the El Paso Diablos. I admit their pillbox caps in the first half of the 1980s were hotter than Hades, but we should really focus on Helena for now.
| The black sweatband makes this is a great candidate for year-round wear, especially in the summer months when a white sweatband would become visibly destroyed from sweat. |
